that there has been an earthquake there. buildings rattled in mexico city. this was off the coast of guatemala. guatemala city, the closest major city to the epicenter. 7.5 magnitude quake off the country's pacific coast. that according to the u.s. geological survey. no word on damage or casualties yet. no word on any kind of a tsunami warning. that will depend on what happened on the ocean floor. we're watching story very closely. buildings were shaking in mexico city. this is large earthquake. 7.5. we'll bring you update as they come into the newsroom. jenna: major airlines are canceling flights into and out of the new york city area. a huge international hub of course. this coming ahead of the second significant storm in a little more than a week. rick has more on this now, rick? >> jenna, 24,000 flights were canceled because of sandy last week. the airlines not taking any chances with this new storm on its way. already flights are being canceled all over the northeast. starting tomorrow at noon, united suspending most of its service. the airlines warning customers that the nor'easter will

of an earthquake off of mexico, karen? >> it is off the coast of guatemala. and this has happened in the last half hour to 45 minutes. preliminary reports were of 7.5 magnitude. this is very close to the coast. here's guatemala city. and it was about 27 miles off the coast, about 20 miles deep. now the information that we have right now is that there was no tsunami warning issued. that could change at any moment now. but 7.5 magnitude. that may be revised as we go throughout the afternoon. it looks like already one aftershock being reported. but we'll keep you updated on that and our other big story is the weather across the northeast and new england. we'll be updating you on that coming up in the next hour with the big nor'easter that is expected to impact those areas hit very hard by superstorm sandy. back to you. >> karen, you'll be watching that for us. we'll be coming back to you throughout the day. thank you so much. >>> as we're about to toss it over to the next crew, but it's kind of -- there's a lot to digest and what all of last night meant. what are your final thoughts on what you've se

almost racist on many occasions. i am engaged to a woman who is from guatemala. she is very smart and very conservative in her personal and social values. just the way the republicans spoke about immigration and things like that, they came across as really racist. so that turned her away and it turned me away. the entire abortion and thing, i think we all know that abortion is not something we want. i don't feel it helps our society in any way. but the way todd akin and richard murdock spoke about it shows their insensitivity to women's issues. a lot of women are tired of white men telling them what they can and cannot do when men cannot have babies. the republican party has a lot of work to do to repair their image. guest: i agree completely. talking about the immigration issue, if you look at the republican primary, a couple incidents happened. herman cain is an african- american republican, but he talked about building a moat to keep immigrants out. candidates like newt gingrich and rick perry bravely stood up for a more compassionate position for immigrants. they got destroyed

santa clara is among those killed in the large earthquake in guatemala this week. 11-year-old aldo dominguez vasquez lived with his uncle and was working at his family's quarry when the 7.4 quake hit. he and nine other relatives were killed by falling rocks. the boy's parents still live in the united states. 52 people were killed in wednesday's quake. >>> well, this morning, police are searching for the person who killed the teenager in east oakland. witnesses say a car pulled up next to the victim's vehicle at parolee court in the fruitvale district last night. the gunman got out, firing several rounds right into the vehicle. the male victim was in his late teens. he lived in that neighborhood. police have not yet released his name. >>> a young man is recovering this morning after he was hit by a bullet in a drive-by shooting overnight in east palo alto. police tell us the 23-year-old was in a car with friends on albernie street when another car drove past and shot at them. this happened just before midnight. the victim is in the hospital in stable condition. no arrests have been
